Beyond Academics
At DDPS, we recognise the value of co-curricular activities in preparing students for their future. We pass on this knowledge to the students by helping them recognise their interests and making them an integral part of their every day life. Hence, great emphasis is laid on such activities and are a regular feature of our school curriculum. By providing the students with a multitude of activities to pursue, we nurture the students’ interest and creative abilities so that each learner is able to realise their hidden potential and develop a broad and positive outlook.
Special importance is laid on sports among co-curricular activities as we believe that they are key to a happy and healthy life, with many important lessons of life sprinkled in as they learn and compete on the courts. To this end, from class 4th onwards, students get a choice of one of four sports - basketball, badminton, cricket and volley ball - which they get to play and practise three times in a week in school. Experienced and knowledgeable coaches guide their efforts and help them improve at their respective sports.
The House System consisting of four Houses namely Bhagat, Patel, Subhash and Tagore provides a platform for children which enables them to recognise their talents, and showcase them through participation in a plethora of competitive activities regularly organised within the school. These activities include the aforementioned sports, poem recitation, debate, extempore, declamation, quizzing, essay writing, role playing, drawing and painting among others. In addition to this, the students are also given numerous opportunities in a wide array of inter-school, district, state and national levels of competitions.
The Annual Sports Day is a culmination of all the skills acquired, all the talent honed and all the efforts put in by the kids. Displays of mass P.T, march pasts and other drills leave the audience in awe of their harmony and precision. The races, on the other hand, make the parents cheer and urge their children forward. Every student gets to participate, strengthening the bond shared by them and their friends while displaying the result of their hardwork and grit. In all, the Sports Day is a rewarding event for both, the students and the parents.
The Winter Social is an event for all children upto class V wherein they get to showcase their collaborative and creative skills under the guidance of the teachers. It consists of numerous plays, festive songs and rhythmic dances. The parents not only get to watch these breathtaking routines but also view a collection of numerous of photos of kids of all classes participating in various activities.
The Fun ’n’ Food Festival is an annual event organised by the teachers for students of all classes. Attractions include delicious food, engaging games and tempting prizes. Besides these, a jam session is organised where children can dance to their hearts content. For the younger kids, bouncy houses and swings are also major attractions.
Other activities include field trips to grocery stores, monasteries, temples and parks, no fire cooking wherein children learn to make basic food items which can be made without fire, the Science & Art Exhibition, Earth Day activities such as planting trees, raising awareness through plays among others.
